William was born about
1801 at Crawford, Lanarkshire. On 7th August 1835 he was married
at Kirkpatrick Juxta, Dumfries, to Janet Halliday [3], [6]. In 1841 he was described as an
agricultural labourer and lived with his wife and family at
Euchan Head, Sanquhar [1],
and in 1851 he was still at
Euchan Head, working as a shepherd
[2]. By 1864 when his wife died they lived at Kingsburn in
Sanquhar, and he was still there in 1871[7].
William died in 1879 at the remote farmstead of Lochmeharb[6], in the Carsphairn hills northwest of Sanquhar.
