late 1914 to Feodor and Evie Romanoff. In his childhood, he
appears to have lived in Ealing and later Worthing, and possibly
St Petersburg where his parents were brought up.

Boris joined the RAF, and
by 1942 he was Squadron Leader, 39150, with 138 Squadron. The
squadron had been formed by bomber command to support the Special
Operations Executive, supplying resistance groups in enemy-occupied
territory with materials and assistance. On 10th March 1942,
Boris was piloting an Armstrong Whitworth Whitley (Z9125,
squadron letters NF-A) on an operation over France, and crashed
during take-off from their base at Stradishall, Suffolk. Boris
and the other four crew members (who were Czechoslovakian) were
all killed.
