William Union

William was born in 1899, the illegitimate son of Ellen Union. He was employed in Greenock as a docker, and remained unmarried. In his later years, he lived at 26 Cathcart Street in Greenock.

In 1939, his second cousin Nicol McKechnie of Greenock sent a postcard to a Willie Union, probably this William. Nicol was in the Merchant Navy and his ship was at Norfolk, Virginia, across the bay from Newport News. Nicol's mother would have suggested he send a card to Willie when he was there, as he would have known he had Union relatives in Newport News.

William died on 17th November 1947 of Myocardial Degeneration. His death was reported by his cousin John Kerr, son of his mother's brother William.
