Mary Martin was born about 1787 to Peter Martin, a
shoemaker, and his wife Barbara [3]. In 1826, she married Robert Peden, a collier
[2,3]. In 1841, she was living at Drumlemble village with her
father-in-law Robert and an 8-year-old child, Janet Peden, probably her daughter [1]. At the same time, her 13-year-old daughter Elizabeth was
in service to the Colliery Manager James Howie, who also lived in Drumlemble
village [1].
Mary died a widow after 11 weeks illness,
on 4th March 1860 aged about 73, of a "growth in her inside". She was buried in
Kilkerran churchyard, Campbeltown [3].
The informant was John McMillan, the husband of her daughter Janet.
