Twosign Richardson was born near Rye in
Sussex to Sarah and Twosign Richardson. Some time after 1861 they moved to live
in the Lydd area. In the early 1870s, Twosign married Matilda, a Lydd girl
(possibly Matilda Ferry, the only Lydd girl of the right age in the 1861
census). By 1881 they were living at the Greatstone end of East Bay near to the
"Jolly Fisherman" pub, and they were still there in 1901. Twosign and his boys
were fishermen.
Twosign died aged 78 on 30th January
1925, and was buried with his wife in Lydd cemetery, Station Road (now Hardens
Road)[12].
The name "Twosign" may have originated
from the French name "Toussaint" - see link for
more details.
