John was an Assistant Naval Architect[4], possibly at Scotts shipyard in Greenock[2]. He was married in 1926 in Greenock to Isabella Leitch Ritchie. One of the witnesses was his brother Jim[4].

In 1929 John and lived with his wife at 23 Cardwell Road, Gourock. In October 1929 John was in the Macpherson Hospital in Gourock with acute appendicitis, where he suffered heart failure and died, aged 32[5].
