Edwin Lee was born in
about 1830 at Charlwood, Surrey. He trained as a butcher, and in 1861 at the age
of 28 was working as an assistant to George Withers at 122 High Street in
Guildford[1]. In
the early 1860s he met his wife
Charlotte in Hursley, between Winchester and Romsey in Hampshire,
and their daughter Elizabeth was born there. In 1881, he was a
butcher living in Camberwell, South London, where he still lived
20 years later at the age of 70. By then, his income came from
work as a jobbing gardener.
