Violet Rollo was born in 1890 in the station house, Callander, to Jemima and David Rollo. By 1919 she was employed as a ticket collector at Callander station, where she met Colin Gardner, a locomotive fireman who at the time was also living in Callander. They married at Callander in October 1919.
