George was born in about 1824 at Pamber, Hants, to James and
Ann Simpson. In 1841, aged 15, he was living with his parents and siblings at
Paynes Peak, about a 2 miles southeast of Odiham[1]. In 1849 he married Lucy Herridge,
and in 1861 they were living with their children on Readen Farm, about 1
mile southeast of Odiham[3].
In 1881, George was living
with his wife and some of his family on Horsedown Common, near
Odiham[5]. By 1901, he was working as gardener and domestic servant
at St Stephen's School (near St Stephens Road, Castlebar Road
& Pitshanger Lane) in Ealing, and his wife Lucy as
housekeeper[7].
George & Lucy are
buried in Perivale churchyard, to the left of the path leading to
the porch[10].
