William was born on 28th
March 1858 at 123 Great College Street, Camden Town, London, to
William and Sophia Buxton [1],[4],[6]. In 1881 he was living with his parents and
siblings at 91 Huddleston Road, London and was employed as a
railway clerk [1]. In about 1882, he married Kate
Shepard [3],[7], and in 1884 their first child was
born. By this time, William was described as an Artist.
By 1901, William was
Managing Director of a Fine Art publishing company, and lived
with his family at "Rose Dene", 98 Dollis Rd, Finchley [3].
William was also an
accomplished painter, and his works are seen in the galleries
from time to time. A watercolour of the seafront at Bosham,
Portsmouth, is currently (2003) offered for sale by a Swedish
gallery for Kr3500 (about £300). He lived for a time in
Hastings, and in 1997 there was an exhibition of his work at the
Hastings Art Gallery [5].
