Agnes was born to Peter
and Jane McKechnie in 1848 [4]. In 1871 her home was at 21 West Blackhall Street in central Greenock[4], and she was in service in the home of the Rev. Bruar, at
Willowbank, Forsyth Street, West Greenock[7]. The same year she married Nicol McKechnie, who at the time was a seaman and spent
much of the following four years away. Between then and the early
1890s, she gave birth to nine children [1, 2, 3]. At the time of son Dugald's birth in 1886,
they were living at 19 Belleville Street in the east end of
Greenock [6].
